The exhibition industry is a barometer of the development of modern scientific technology and economy, which also reflects the development track of scientific technology and economy of a country, a region and even the whole world. With the establishment and continuing improvement of China’s socialist market economy, China’s exhibition industry has developed from infancy to maturity, featuring continuing growth of industry items, establishment of exhibition halls still to be growing, diverse development of the exhibition holders led by the government, high intensity of exhibition regions and noticeable social and economic benefits.

China’s exhibition industry starts late, but develops rapidly. The number of exhibition items in 1997 broke through 1000 and 2000 in 2001, more than 3000 in 2002, about 3800 in 2005. Compared with international exhibition items, China has become a big exhibition country, ranking the first in Asia, and second in the world.

Driven by the economic development brought forth by exhibitions in cities, the number of exhibition halls has increased remarkably, currently ranking the third in the world, just after America and Britain.

In China, an exhibition has always been a carrier and important means for the government to improve the development of such undertakings as trade, investment, technology and cultural communication. Consequently, most of China’s exhibitions are led by the government or other authoritative agents, which is also a noticeable feature that differs from other big exhibition countries in the world.

In fact, China’s exhibition industry is mainly located in cities and provinces like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu, the manufacturing industries and economies of which are well-developed. This is also the present feature of China’s exhibition industry.

Compared with big exhibition countries such as America and Germany from the perspective of social and economic benefits, China’s exhibition industry has worked remarkably. Exhibition has become an important carrier for China’s enterprises to introduce products, get acquainted with clients, and reach agreements on orders. In addition, the number of viewers and enterprises attending the exhibition ranks the second in the world. With a wide range of exhibition participants combined with publicity campaigns launched by major media, exhibitions in China play the role of enlightening the public and building up knowledge, which therefore can bring good social benefits.
