China Trade Show Guide

Since entering the 21st century, China’s exhibition industry has maintained a strong momentum of growth, with the development of China’s socialist market economy, the expansion of China’s opening to the outside world, as well as China’s successful accession to WTO. China has been identified as a big exhibition country in the world, who is now marching forward to become a strong exhibition country.

The development of China’s exhibition industry can be described as rapid. According to the latest statistics released by CCPIT, the number of exhibitions held in the mainland of China throughout the year 1997 reached 1,000 for the first time, and this figure jumped to 3,800 in 2006 over a short span of ten years. With its rapid economic growth, China has become the fastest growing exhibition market in the world.

"2006 China Exhibition Economy Development Report" recently released by CCPIT points out that China’s exhibition industry is able to maintain the momentum of steady growth in recent years. Fundamentally speaking, the reason why China’s exhibition industry has attracted worldwide attention is that it has become the world’s fastest economic growth region. Besides Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, all large and medium-sized cities regard the exhibition industry as a new economic growth point and a pillar industry. There are exhibition economic zones in the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, Bohai, the Central and western regions and the Northeast regions. China’s exhibition economy is marching toward an unprecedented scale and at an amazing speed.

Along with the accelerating economic globalization, the development of other economies slows down while China’s economy grows steadily. Giants in the world’s exhibition industry thus begin to pay attention to the development of China’s exhibition market. They set stations and branch offices in China one after another. For one time, driven by enterprises in developed countries, China’s international exhibitions begin to take firm steps. With good examples available and competitive rivals, China’s exhibition industry is marching forward in introspection.

Overseas exhibition enterprises will continue to develop China’s exhibition market in new ways and by new means. With the acceleration of the process of China’s exhibition industry opening to the outside world, overseas exhibition bodies have penetrated China’s exhibition market in an all-round way, from the building of exhibition halls, layout of booths, transport of products for exhibitions, as well as exhibition certifications to education and training related to exhibitions. Judging from the status quo of China’s exhibition industry, it will be harder for overseas enterprises than domestic ones to tap into it. In this context, only through creative cooperation can overseas enterprises win the Chinese market.
