Wu Bangguo, chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, put into motion the Shanghai World Expo kicks off on May 1 when the clock marking the dwindling days. Wu said it is “a big aspiration for all Chinese people”, and the government would exert every effort to prepare for the gala on the same day next year.
Pavel Antonin Stehlik, the Czech commissioner general, who participated in the Shanghai Expo said earlier that it would symbol the economic revival worldwide. Parkistan’s ambassador to China, Masood Khan, who is also the country’s expo commissioner general have taken the gala as a “confident building measure and indeed a stimulus package for the world economy”. He said, “Shanghai’s expo will help us look beyond the international financial crisis and prepare for the better, robust economies”.
Shanghai Expo is another global party after Beijing Olympics and Paralympics last summer in Beijing. It runs from May 1 to Oct 31, 2010. China won the bid with the theme “better city, better life” in December 2002 and became the first developing country to host the world expo.
According to the organizers, there are 236 countries and international organizations in total have confirmed to attend the event, of which there are 50 from Africa, 33 from America, 45 from Europe, 45 from Asia and 16 from Oceania.
The large gathering will push Shanghai past Hannover, Germany, which drew 155 countries and 17 international organizations, to be the host of the biggest world expo ever.
