Three important international medical events, which attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors, were held at Suzhou International Expo Centre in November. They are China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF), API China and the third International Congress of the China Orthopedic Association (COA).
CMEF, held from October29 to November 1, is by far the sector’s leading equipment show in China in scale, variety of exhibits and reputation. The event, attended by more than 2.000 businesses from various places, attracted about 120,000 business visitors.
This event showed the latest medical equipment and technologies at 4,400 booths covering a total area of 86,000 sq m. Some famous exhibitors attended the fair, including China’s Shandong Xinhua, Shenzhen Mairui, Shenyang Neusoft and Qingdao Haier, as well as multinational giants like Siemens, GE, Hitachi and Toshiba.
In the opinion of industry insiders, this year’s CMEF was an effective platform for outsourcing and exchange.
API China, opened on November 5, is our country’s leading exhibition for the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector covering the complete spectrum of products from raw materials, fine chemicals, intermediates, ingredients, processing machinery and packaging machinery.
Interphex has cooperated with API China for five times, which definitely has further strengthened the event’s international influence, as Interphex is a brand in global shows for medical and life sciences that represents a cross-section of the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries.
The four-day event attracted the participation of various parts, including 120,000 professional visitors, many famous businesses such as China’s North China Pharmaceuticals Group, Harbin Pharmaceuticals Group, Northeast China Pharmaceuticals Group, Baiyunshan Pharmaceuticals and overseas companies like Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Bayer and GlaxoSmithkline and a total of 1,200 businesses from home and abroad, exhibiting their products at 1,930 booths covering a total area of about 50,000 sq m.
COA, another important medical event held from November 13 to 16, was the largest event of its kind ever in China. It attracted 8,000 experts, of whom 300 participants are from 18 countries and regions.
There is no doubt that Suzhou International Expo Centre is now an essential place for exhibition industry in China. More than 130 events, including 33 exhibitions and other activities like conferences and symposiums, held during the first 11 months of this year, show the centre’s growing recognition by the world. In the organizers’ opinion, the success is largely owing to excellent services and facilities.
The professionals in the COA congress said they are extremely impressed by the services of the centre. They are grateful for the services offered by the centre. If 100 points are the full mark for customer satisfactory, they give their services 105. The success of the event has exceeded their expectations.
According to Chen Gang, president of Suzhou International Expo Centre, the service standard of the centre is in line with the international norms.
“Each year, we send our staff members to take part in training sessions in Singapore as well as China’s Hong Kong, which are famous for their exhibition and convention industries,” Chen said.
Of the three important international exhibition industry associations-the International Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) and the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO), Suzhou International Expo Centre is the only one in China to be a member of them.
As the expo centre President Chen Gang is appointed president of IAEE in China, Suzhou will also be home to the China headquarters of IAEE. It is surely that the centre will play an important role in bridging the domestic and overseas exhibition businesses.
Since its foundation in the year of 2004, the centre has hosted more than 400 events, including about 100 exhibitions and 300 conferences, receiving a total of 3 million visitors.
The centre has maintained an annual growth between 35 percent and 40 percent, which is the result of the enormous investment from local government n infrastructure construction and improvements, booming industrial development in Suzhou and the city’s advantageous location.
Several factors have done some benefits in the development of exhibition industry.
Good business opportunities. The Suzhou Sino-Singaporean Cooperative Industrial Park, where the expo centre is located, is one of the major industrial bases in Suzhou and the Yangtze River Delta. Its comprehensive, well-developed industries have generated a great demand for exhibition and convention events.
Good geographical location. At the centre of the delta, Su-zhou has easy transportation and logistics links with big metropolises such as Shanghai and Nanjing, but has lower costs in hosting exhibitions and conventions.
Strong local authorities support. The administrative committee of the Suzhou Sino- Singaporean Cooperative Industrial Park has recently released preferential policies to stimulate the development of the industry, including establishment of a special fund to reward the hosting of large events in the centre.
Some related sectors, especially the catering and tourism industries, have been greatly driven by the rapid growth of the exhibition and convention industry. “The driving effect of the exhibition and convention industry to related sectors can be demonstrated in the ratio of 1-to-10, meaning that each yuan earned from the exhibition industry can add revenue of 10 yuan to the local economy,” Chen said.
All rooms in the city’s 27 four- and five-star hotels were fully booked even during the COA congress, the smallest among all the three medical ones.
